Travel Log # 6: Zombie Apocalypse Near the Valley of Fire

12/3/19
We left Wiliams, AZ and headed toward Nevada. On our way, instead of going the quickest route, we found a large section that left the interstate and followed Route 66 through several small towns. Turns, out that was a great choice. We found a little museum in Ashflatt, AZ.

They had some very...unique interactive exhibits.

These advertisements were all down the drive on side of the road. An old company, Bermashave, used this for advertising back in the day.

There were a lot of unique sites in the small towns.

We made a quick stop a park.
And of course, the scenery from the drive NEVER disappoints in this area.

Once we got to Nevada we spent a little time exploring.
Our first stop was Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Boulder City.
Jackson decided to complete the Jr. Ranger program here. He worked on completing his tasks.
We stayed the night in Boulder City.

12/4/19
Our first adventure this day was touring the Hoover Dam. Just in case you ever visit--you can go to the last 2 parking lots and save yourself $10 in parking fees. The AZ side doesn't charge you to park, the Nevada side does. It is only a brief walk.

 It is 727 feet tall.

On the way up there is a sign to hold onto your hat. Obviously people don't listen. there were hundreds of hats down there in this spot. John Gannon begged us to let him climb down there!
Johnny tried to convince us to let this be our tour to save the wallet a little hit. It is a little ridiculous how much they charge.

This is the tunnel they used to divert the water from the Colorado River when they were building the dam.

 These are the power generators.

After the Hoover Dam, we stopped back at the Lake Mead Center and Jackson took his oath to be a Jr. Ranger. Next, we spent some time at the hotel and drove to walk the streets of Las Vegas.

Hands down...this was my favorite experience in Las Vegas. We were walking down the street--Johnny and Jackson were a few steps ahead of John and I. This zombie guy jumps up out of nowhere and scares the life out of me. Now before I continue, the boys have prepped me well for a Zombie Apocalypse. I can't tell you how many quizzes I have completed for them and how much we have talked about survival. So, it all became real in that moment. I see and hear the squawks and scream of the Zombie coming to eat my brain in that quick moment and what do I do? I scream...not a little yelp or a quick yell...a scream, one that would crack windows and for sure attracted the attention of the hundreds of people in the area at the time. But the best part, what does John do? He raises his right leg into a fetal position in the air and screams too! I haven't laughed that well in years. I am sure we will be streaming on Youtube in one of those jump scare videos. Good times!

We stayed the night again in Boulder City.

12/5/19
We left Boulder City and spent the day hiking and exploring the Valley of Fire. So far, this has been my favorite place. The landscape is amazing but changes so frequently. We could have spent a few days here. Notice in the pictures how different the landscape is within this one park! You could hike for days here.

The sun set on our adventures that day and we hit the road. We made it to
and stayed the night in La Verkin, Utah.

Whew...I am having a hard time remembering everything at this point. I am thankful for timestamps on pictures and Johnny for remembering exactly what state we were in each time.

Live a Meaningful Life!
