2022 Travel Log #11 Carlsbad Caverns National Park & Reconnecting with a Friend

After Guadalupe, we explored Carlsbad Caverns National Park. But the evening before, we explored around the town/area. This is the closest area to the park, Whites City. He's real! And actually a quite friendly guy! We stayed the night in Carlsbad, NM. They have a park by the river in town! We walked there as the sun set. And here is our adventure in the park.  There were two ways to enter--via elevator from the visitors center or via a 1.25 mile steep grade hike down. We did the hike in. By doing this, you see much more of the cave. It is pretty neat how you walk down and go into the hole! Our plans included exploring Rattlesnake Canyon the remainder of the day but it was closed due to damage caused by flooding, along with all the other hiking trails :(....so, we did a little ridge walk and picnicked). 2022 Travel Log #10 Guadalupe National Park

(This picture was taken at the grotto we hiked to on a trail in the park). After leaving Big Bend National Park, our next destination was Guadalupe National Park. In between there, we stopped at Van Horn, TX. Here are a few sites from there. Why in the world would this small town have a mural of Jeff Bezos and Blue Origin?? And just in case you don't know--Jeff B. is the Amazon founder. Odd stuff we thought. UNTIL....we passed this out in the middle of nowhere! It is his missile testing/launch site for his space travel stuff. He chose the area because of its remote location and his memories of spending time at his grandfatther's southwestern TX ranch when he was a child. Because we turned around to snap a picture--I fully expected to be surrounded by black SUVs again...but it seems we were safe this time! Due to the white rock clear water, blue sky and fall colors, this was one of the most colorful hikes we have taken so far! We extended this a little more and hiked to a grotto
