Career Quest #4

Wow! I know I say this every time I write about these days but they are so much fun. We all (moms and kids) learn so much. We started today's quest at Leake and Goodlett. The kids were first intrigued with the pedestal that once was the home of a meteorite.                         Here is a picture (of a picture) of the meteorite. The meteorite had been passed down throughout the Leake family since it was found in 1870. It has been displayed in many places, including the Fish Hatchery and at a festival in Louisiana celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana purchase. In 2010 the meteorite was stolen from this pedestal. A year later it was returned but they decided not to put it back on the pedestal due to the fear of it being taken again. Weekend +2 Trip

Johnny had to attend a crisis prevention training in Biloxi this past Monday and Tuesday so we decided to leave Friday afternoon and spend the weekend in Dauphin Island, AL. We left after Johnny got off work on Friday so we were going to arrive late. We drove to Mobile and stayed the night in Sam's parking lot (in our camper of course!) At the back of the parking lot was a really neat store with lots of history from the early 80's. It was Bebo's Car Wash. It was obviously a state of the art place when it was constructed. It won lots of awards. They had newspaper articles and a chronicle of the history of the place inside. It was pretty neat! I am still amazed that we can just pull over, cut the heat on, watch a movie, cook, and sleep so easily! Anyway, we got up early Saturday morning and drove a few minutes to Dauphin Island.
