It Only Costs Time...

We decided we would try to have at least a small adventure with the remaining day....and weekend of our Spring Break! So we packed and went to Trace State Park for 2 nights of camping.  I thought I would share some of our adventures to encourage you to do small things with your children or other peoples' children that you love!  None of these things cost a thing...

1. Roll down a hill!  We had races! The only drawbacks for me--I was a little itchy afterwards! I remember rolling down this hill at one of our neighbors' houses when I was kid--it was loads of fun. When we drive by there now, the hill doesn't seem near as big as it does in my memory!

2. Play silly games!  John Gannon got several of his toys and they became secret army men--hiding out to attack--We decided we would make some silly pictures with them too! And don't worry--the kids come up with them--just play along. And if your kids have a hard time coming up with games--it's never too late to reclaim the imagination--just start one yourself!

3. Create stuff with nature--like rock men who fight for you or a large warrior equipped with his own sword (see if you see him--he is on the left and his head is to the left of the word sword)...the possibilities are endless!

4.  Go for a walk--it doesn't have to be on an official trail--just get the ole dogs a moving! Entrance to a park for a day pass is usually no more than $3.00! Trails, hikes in the woods,or just around the neighborhood can be great places to learn how to overcome obstacles--like how cross the large section of water without getting wet or trying to figure out how to get back where you started :)

What was that sound?

5.  Light a fire. Sit around it, cook a meal on it, look at it, talk, think, tell stories--funny stories, scary stories, make you think stories, stories that with meaning, silly stories...

6. Learn something new.  For us this past weekend, we started playing disc golf.  It was pretty fun!

7. Walk around where ever you are and find things that "don't belong." With the exception of the hamsters, we found a clothes hanger, bread ties, pieces of wire, bottle tops, pieces of plastic...We gathered it all in our treasure chest!

8.  Catch a critter and tell its story. See Freddy the Frog?  It just so happened one day he was looking for some new friends.  And guess who just happened to come along--the Cox's of course.  They were going on a family hike and Freddy decided to jump out and see if they wanted to play.  Just as Freddy took his first jump, the Mom yelled, "Hey, there is a small frog!" It was just the job for the frog catcher, John Gannon.  Jackson cheered for his brother as John  quickly snatched the tiny frog...

My point--it doesn't take long or much of anything other than time to have some meaningful moments with your children or others in your life.  Stop wasting your time away working all time, cleaning the house obsessively, and running to all the "activities."Just stop life for a little bit and just live--fully engaged with the others around you.  And maybe, after the 2 hour hike, they will fall to the ground and say, "I am so tired!" And maybe, just maybe, they will have a memory that lasts their entire lifetime! Live a Meaningful Life!
