Travel Log 2019 #3: A Sticky Situation

11/27/19
We woke up to rain and set out to visit the Old West town of Tombstone, AZ. On our way, we found a real ghost town, Steins, NM. It is now owned by a family and they had it fenced in to keep thieves out. But they still allow you to walk around the outside. It has a really interesting history we were able to read online.

The little abandoned town had a great view behind it!
Not too long afterwards, we finally got to a state that we had not been to together!

And much to Jackson's delight, there wasn't too much more waiting until we arrived at our destination.

The town all started with mining.

Why there is Wyatt Earp himself!

It is always interesting to hear the boys' imaginations come alive as we travel. Jackson wanted his chaps, boots, and a cowboy hat. He settled with buying a metal cap pistol.
John wanted a red fancy western type vest and a black button up shirt, but he was not about to pay the price they wanted! So, he settled for the only part of his desired outfit that he thought was reasonably priced...the hat!

We stayed the night in Tuscon, AZ.

11/28/19 (Thanksgiving Day)
While the boys and I did school together, Johnny went and did our laundry. When he got back, we packed up, and we went to find our adventure for the day. There was still a lot of rain predicted for the area so we decided to go to the Sanguaro National Park. Sanguaro is the name of the tall cactus that is native to the Sanoron Dessert. We drove, hiked, and climbed in the dessert among the cacti. As Johnny said, "We found ourselves in a real sticky situation!" Oh, and how thankful we were for the ranger at the pay station that informed us that Jackson qualified for the free National Parks pass because he is in 4th grade. I completely forgot about that. We had been paying the access fees and had decided we were going to buy the pass at this stop. I gave Jackson a fist bump for saving us $80 for the year pass!

There were all kinds of cacti.
Of course with all of the exploring, we all ended up having to pull a few spines from our clothes and others from their skin...
Oh the conversations we can have. Johnny has to keep his distance sometimes because we wear his ears out chattering together!

John was trying to teach me how to stand with style!

Jackson stopped us a lot and pointed out the different "things" he saw! This one had a face, ears, and body!
 A heart...
This was my favorite type of cactus.
I know I say this frequently but when I look up and see this, my heart cannot help but being flooded with joy. How thankful I am to have these three guys in my life!

He was the lookout during all of our exploring. Of course, we were in the perfect location for a cowboy/Indian battle.

We also made a quick peak here.

Alright...I'll stop with the pictures. We stayed the night in Phoenix, AZ.
