Our Weekend in the Psych Ward

One weekend ago, I honestly cannot remember if it was a week ago or two weeks ago, Johnny and I admitted ourselves. We left the children in good hands with Granny, and made the trek. We packed a few things that would be essential to positive therapeutic outcomes.

We arrived at the facility and made a quick round to make sure they had room for us. When we saw there was plenty of open spots, we immediately went for our first therapy session.

Our first session was shock therapy, 13.6 miles of it to be exact.

This was our view when we reached our goal.

After our first session, we officially checked into the facility. As you can see, the swing bed unit offered nice, scenic rooms. As a matter of fact, for our next session, Johnny and I decided to take different paths. I combined bibliotherapy with the swing bed.

He chose an intensive water therapy.

After these intensive sessions, the facility director, Roxe suggested we brush up on social skills so we had dinner with her, Blaze, and a new found friend who was also checked into the facility, Ted.

Afterwards, Johnny and I enjoyed a little laughter therapy as we roamed the roads on the way back to the facility. Here were some of our finds.

We enjoyed a little nature therapy as we enjoyed the sunset tuck behind the mountains.

On our last day, I visited with Roxe and then sat on the rocks and watched all the people enjoy their intensive water therapy as I waited for Johnny to finish. When we walked up the hill to put the boat on the car to head home, we met new friends again. They invited us to join in on their Mexican spread. It was delish.

So after our weekend, we were both refreshed and ready to see our boys. A few take aways from our therapy:

1. Community: living in a world where people share and enjoy each others' company is a good world. In a matter of two days, we shared a meal with complete strangers on side of the road and met another friend who has since invited us to spend memorial day weekend in South Carolina. We have taken him up on the offer and will be heading out on Wed. or Thurs. of this week for camping and kayaking at Oconee State Park.

2. Nature: I promise, just being in nature is SO good for the soul. Right now, I am sitting on the back porch enjoying the gentle breeze and sunshine as I hear the laughter of our boys playing in the water. Johnny and I are convinced that staying shut up in a house is not only bad for your health, but your spirit and soul as well!

3. Duck Lips: The ONLY time anyone should make duck lips and take a picture is if you are doing this...seriously, I mean that! :)

Live a Meaningful Life!
