Faces Of Thunder Rock #1

We have only been in the forest a month but have already met some of the coolest people. Some just smile and wave, others choose to chat and make personal connections with us. Johnny and I were discussing it the other day and decided it would be neat to do a "Faces of Thunder Rock" series of posts every once in a while. I already have the pictures for 3 and will have more by the weekend.  So, here it goes!

Meet Corey.

Due to an accident some years ago, Corey is disabled and wheelchair bound. But let me tell you, it does not slow him down a bit. As a matter of fact, he has decided that he is going to start a blog and share adventures that are friendly to people with disabilities. He was at our campground to see how friendly it was to those in wheelchairs (bathrooms, trails, etc.). He is gathering data this summer within a 75 mile radius of Cleveland, TN, and then hopes to be able to expand the area he explores and the adventures he engages in.

The boys enjoyed meeting Corey, and we spent lots of time conversing in the shade. Corey is accompanied by his dog, Faith, who is a delight. (sad that I didn't take a picture of her to put here) She has this incredible skill of creating kindling for a fire. She will pick up a log and completely shred the bark into thin little strips!

Corey shared with us some of his past mistakes--that he is still reaping the consequences from presently. He will be past that hurdle in a couple of years and hopes to be able to travel even further, having more and more adventures along the way. I think one true mark of wisdom is when when can come to terms with our mistakes, own them, and LEARN FROM THEM!

Corey has now made two visits to Thunder Rock since we have been the hosts. This last visit, he brought Jackson a biking helmet that looks like a dirt bike helmet! He was thrilled... We look forward to keeping up with the work Corey is doing and following along on his journey once he gets started writing. You can connect to his Facebook Group by clicking on this link: Wheeled Adventures. He will be in the forest or in remote areas most of the summer, so don't expect to see a lot the next couple of months!

We are thankful to God for giving us the opportunity to live in an environment that lets us connect with new people every single day! What a gift!
