Quick Weekend Trip

This past weekend (March 2-4) was beautiful. We FINALLY traded the continuous rain for some sunshine and a hint of warmth! Johnny has been wanting to get on some water, so the warmth and all the days of rain made it a perfect match for us. We drove over to Alabama on Saturday. Johnny met up with a large group of folks and paddled the Sauty River. While he was on the water the boys and I had fun hiking and exploring an abandoned state park. Here are some of our memories!

This was as close to a family portrait as I have. You would think since I lost all of our pictures a few months ago I would have snapped one...but hey, there will hopefully be more adventures ahead!

The sun kissed the water perfectly and make the scenery scream with beauty!

I think the boat was even looking forward to this ride!
As always, the explorers were in full force as we waited for the descent to start.
Getting those daily push ups in!
Once the boats started floating, the boys and I went to find where the trip would end so we would know where to pick up our precious husband/dad! Turns out, you get out at an abandoned state park. We camped here back in the day, but it has been closed for several years now.

We made the most of it and explored around!

This little guy got captivated by the overlook and snapped a few pictures himself.

Can you see the waterfall in the distance?
We pretended we were native explorers having to survive with what we could find.
Jackson wanted to make an animal habitat. He made a frame with sticks and added grass and leaves. It was a pretty neat shelter once it was finished.
John was in true form. Since he has been old enough to carry a bag, he always has one and fills it with random things. At 12, it is still going strong. Who cares that it is his new hydration bag and only designed to carry essentials for biking/hiking...
And of course, the animated faces made their appearance frequently as well.
It was a great day in nature with my boys!

We wrapped up the day with an overnight stay at the Hampton in Scottsboro!
